EXPERIMENT 2  l  THOMAS DEAN  l  33774497

THE CONCEPTS:

The two Architects/Architectural Firm choosen by my tutor were Jorn Utzon a Danish Architect and BIG Architects. Both express very unique understandings of architecture and produce different work. The two main concepts that were derived from their architecture includes:

  • Jorn Utzon -  Solid, Void/ Public/ private spaces. Thick walls with functions leavng open public spaces
  • BIG Architects -  Subtraction and Addition

THE MONUMENTS:

The two monuments I decided use to show my impression of these concepts and be properly viewed in Google Warehouse - ARCH1101-Thomas Dean-Experiment 2 (search this in Googlewarehouse)

The following axonometric drawings show the process in which I went through to create the final environment.

 Axonometrics:

Reverse angle of subtraction and addition

Public and Private spaces

Public and Private spaces reversed

Combining both concepts to create an 'Electroliquid Aggregation'

By combining the two concepts about the architects a new concept can be formed relating to the the 'Space in between' where Architectural Studies, Architectural Computing and Engineering students can meet and discuss a number of topics. The combination of the two concepts can be represented in the following set of axonometrics:

Public/Private spaces and Subraction and Addition

The combination of Public/Private spaces and Subtraction and addition reversed

NEW CONCEPT

The creation of interactive spaces that allow people to engage with the architecture, either in their own personal space or connecting with other people in a much broader space. These 'public' and 'private' spaces are created uses the subtraction and addition of certain elements to create an engaging piece of architecture.

AXONOMETRICS:

Other concepts were also created in relation to these architects and can also be expressed in the form of axonometric drawings, such as:

JORN UTZON and BIG ARCHITECTS

36 CUSTOM TEXTURES:

Below is my representation of the textures ranging from light to dark:

THE LANDFORM:

The environment that I created in the CryEngine adheres to the combinations of all of the concepts. I decided to include elevated terrain, acting as an addition as well as bodies of water that cut into the landfrom which acts as a subtraction. These additions and subtractions create unique spaces, some are open, yet other are enclosed and provide great privacy.
Below is a link to my game environment, I encourage you to explore the vast layout and discover the open spaces and find yourself within the seclusive spaces to relax and enjoy.

THE IMAGES:

Below are five images captured from 'The world' which best shows my monmuments interracting with each other and the surrounding environment at different times of the day.

This image mostly shows a dark texture and the addition of elements such as thick walls and roofs to create public and private spaces, with the subtration of some rectangular shapes that form doorways to other spaces, allowing endless possibilities

This image shows the view from the top level of one of the monuments. You are able to see the subtractions in the platform highlighted in red, as well as the use of thick walls to create different spaces with significant uses

This image effectively shows the use of red tinted glass to add a certain aspect of viewing the surrounding environment. Glass walls are also used, adding a coloured tinge to its surrounding surfaces. The subraction of certain surfaces allows easy access and creates an opportunity to explore
